Feeling a little off

Thought I had been lucky & not gotten any colds or flu bugs this winter! Last couple days been suffering from a mix of sore muscles & sore throat! Lots of training & the body got a bit run down.
Rest today, sleeping, good food & difflam gargle is on the agenda.

Physio was great, release work on neck which has helped the glands go down & am feeling a little better! That & sleep, key.

So was feeling sorry for myself today – hopefully tomorrow is a better day mood wise, takes a lot of energy to be in a good mood all the time, riding the waves today.

Retail therapy

Not being your typical girly girl, shopping isn’t a regular task I really enjoy or do too regularly (unless rebel or running bare have a sale) I always found it tedious & never got excited unless it was buying a dress for a special occasion. Today I was excited to go clothes shopping because all my clothes are too big!!

Wearing my work suits the last couple weeks/months I felt frumpy, like I was playing dress-ups in my mums closet! It has been a good couple years since I brought a work suit! Time for some new pieces in the wardrobe me thinks.

Wasn’t too sure how today would go – first place I headed was Cue in Myer – the sales lady was like my personal shopper with belts, jackets, dresses & suits!! When we were working out sizes I said I think I am a 12 bottom, 10 top too which she replied “I think you are definitely a 10” – and she was right! I tried on an array of colours, patterns & mixed & matched funky jackets with some awesome dress/wide belt combos – doing the happy dance in the cubicle for each outfit! I got a gorgeous skirt suit, a couple tops & a pair of summer shorts from Country Road! I would of loved to grab a couple dresses too but decided to pace myself!

Headed into Portman’s which is where I picked up my last black trouser suit & managed to pick up cotton trousers, black skirt & a couple tops! I decided that I had done well & time to call it a day, enough new things to mix’n’match for a bit. All the excitement had tired me out! I think I may have inspired the sales assistant to do 12WBT.

I don’t worry about sizes too much, but seemed to always be in between sizes since I moved to London in 2000. I haven’t been a size 10 since I was in my early 20’s! Being skinny most of my teenage years I remember going from an 8 to a 10 & being ecstatic, because I was normal! Funny really I spent years being tall, thin & lanky, one of the names at school “starvation on stilts” I always remember being called. Haha that and “metal mouth” – thanks to braces…… Ahh kids.

So a big breakthrough today for me in so many ways – I have finally got myself trying on clothes confidently, knowing they will fit me, that I am not in between sizes anymore which sometimes made me choose outfits that made me feel just ok, not FABULOUS!

Met Emma today who is going to do my photo-shoot in 16days! I liked the idea of seeing the studio & discussing options for the shoot.

I have so many ideas & together we worked out key outfits and I am looking forward to just having fun ūüôā

This is for me to celebrate how far I have come this year & to just do it, not waiting until I think I am perfectly toned or comparing myself to others – living in the now @ grabbing opportunities as they appear.

Personality traits for shoot – fit, happy, sassy!!

Energy central…

Day Seven!  After feeling a bit worse for wear yesterday the rest of the day plodded along quite nicely food wise, once I got some good fats and proteins/veggies into me I felt good and managed a HUGE leg session last night.

I¬†love Tuesday leg training – I always manage to get to the squat racks as the boys tend to train chest – funny how the patterns start appearing…¬† Well the squat rack was busy last night, I asked the guy who had just finished deadlifting 140kgs (as you do) how many sets he had left.. he had just finished BINGO! Happy days… I could stay there and do my four sets of squats and deadlifts. So much energy – warmed up with 40kgs one set and then did 3 x 12 of 65kgs. My technique and form spot on, no twinges in back and nice and low.¬† Deadlifts I didn’t feel as strong, but managed warm up on 40kgs and 3x 10 of 50kgs.

Smashed out 4 sets of 12 reps on the leg press at 100kgs… I can do heavier but find this weight perfect for me, have great form, good range, nice and slow and I last couple ¬†I feel and not overdo the pressure on my knees.¬† Supersetted with some lunges holding 15kg plate.¬†¬† Then in true Donna tradition I headed over to finish off the session with some jump squat/burpee push ups – which totally smashed me – love that feeling… my legs were like “chicka we cannot jump anymore” I was like YES YOU CAN, so I did 5 sets of 10.¬† Needless to say I had fun walking down the stairs and the walk home felt like I was drunk heee.¬†

Food plan is working, feeling amazing, good energy today for boxing and I am not craving or thinking about food at all.  I did have slight hunger pains this morning but nothing too extreme or out of the ordinary.

Breakfast today was ocean trout omelette with cherry tomatoes, fetta and onion with a long black (yes fetta, only a little bit and was delicious).  Lunch is baked chicken with paprika/cumin/lemon with baked zucchini, rocket salad with an avocado salsa, dinner is the same as last night, kangaroo/veggie.  Snacks today are strawberries/banana in coconut milk and almonds. Water obviously. Delish.

A little zapped….

Day Six today – tomorrow will be a week since I commenced my new eating plan, following the Paleo guidelines & eliminating all dairy, grains and processed foods.

Today I am feeling rather flat, lethargic and was a little spacey on my walk to train my bootcamp girls this morning.    I had a big workout last night which felt fantastic whilst I was training, back/biceps workout Рlots of heavy pulldowns, single arm rows, bicep curls, bent over rows, cable work and lots of pull ups and chinups.  I then did bodyjam and burnt over 520calories in an hour.  So I had the energy last night and seem to have lost it today.

Fuzzy is how I am feeling – my body is getting used to not having¬†as much¬†carbs (only complex from sweet potato) to fuel it¬† and I can feel my body slowly changing gears to adapt… so will just see how I go. I have a good dose of vegetables for lunch with chicken (good ole roast leftovers still going strong) and breakfast from this morning has totally filled me up. Four eggs (haha didn’t mean to eat them all but cooked two in each ramekan dish and brought it all) spinach, avocado, tomato & 90g salmon.¬†Drinking lots of water and have lots of healthy fruit, nuts as snacks for the rest of the day. Got my new protein powder in the post yesterday too – Tony Sfeir’s pea protein isolate, am excited to try! http://tonysfeir.com.au/products/naturel-healthy-proteins/pea-protein-isolate/¬†

Enjoyed reading this article –¬† that is how i am feeling, but I don’t have the cravings for anything…. oh and I am not cranky at all, no cranky pants here, just feeling abit foggy. I have to remember I have gone cold turkey, haven’t weaned myself off my oats or milks/yoghurts…¬† (even though I did have some greek yoghurt on Sunday with the rogan josh, delicious btw).¬† Am just taking each day as it comes, if I fancy something I will have it, but so far haven’t really wanted much – had some dark chocolate with almonds/orange yesterday.. tasted so sweet but good.

Tuesday is LEG day… bring on a HUGE session – time to further increase my weights/intensity….¬†

Post training meal will consist of kangaroo, sweet potato mash and loads of yellow & green veggies tonight (with flaxseed oil) on the menu.  Delish.

I’ve got a lovely bunch of coconuts…..

Coconut oils and milks that is.¬†¬†I seem to have started my new eating plan around the same time as the media has picked up on a certain celebrity also using coconut oil… it isn’t new, it has been around for yonkers. I have always loved coconut products either fresh coconut juice or milk. ¬†I have known for years it’s benefits, just hasn’t been that readily available as it is now. Highlight of my trip to Tonga last year was fresh coconuts everyday, for 80c.

This page will tell you all the reasons why coconut oil is good for you. http://www.organicfacts.net/organic-oils/organic-coconut-oil/health-benefits-of-coconut-oil.html

Mention fat to most people and they freak out.  Dust off your biochem books people and learn exactly what fat does in the body.  For a quick refresher and interesting read, check out this fab blog a friend of mine has put together.  In relation to coconut products read about MCT (medium chain triglycerides) Lauric acid is a MCT which is found in coconut oil.

Since beginning my current eating regime I can honestly say I feel amazing – I have been on a health and fitness journey since February this year, losing bodyfat, gaining muscle and improving my physical and mental health, so this new regime of course will be complimenting all the hard work I have put in over the last few months. ¬†I am using the Paleo diet as a guide. Ensuring that ALL the foods I put in my body haven’t had much processing – so lots of fruit, vegetables, meats, fats, nuts/seeds etc. ¬†No dairy, no grains and NO processed stuff… ¬†being realistic also.

What has improved? I have a constant energy bank, I don’t experience tiredness or energy ups and downs (hyperactivity), am sleeping much deeper and didn’t require any nanna naps this weekend (madness I hear you say, love a good nanna nap), my digestion has ahem moved along more which means the 1.3kgs I have lost on the scale since Wednesday could be a little build up perhaps? I have no cravings, I have no hunger pains & I am not obsessing about food, I am enjoying the variety in foods I am eating and also the taste of fresher fruits/veggies, Getting a fresh fruit/veggie/egg box delivered to your doorstop on day four is a pretty good way to keep the healthy food being ingested. ¬†Day Four was a great day with a egg/veggie mix for breakfast, long blacks, fruits/nuts, tuna salad with avocado before having a nice 350g steak from the Chophouse (with veggies) and a few glasses of a delish shiraz! Oh my.

So what have I eaten today – Day Five? I started the day with fresh fruit, almond meal and coconut milk (organic). ¬†I had a long black on the way to bootcamp training followed by two boiled eggs, strawberries and almonds before I headed to the pool to swim 20 lap for triathlon training. ¬† I met the lovely Anastasia for lunch (blog author of primalmeded.com) and we went to this new place on Crown Street called Madam Char Char… ¬†great fresh food – ¬†chickens, salads etc… lamb rogan josh for me and sweet potato salad. Delish. ¬†Dinner was roast chicken (Lilydale $11 for 1.6kgs an veggies cooked in coconut oil) tasted so fresh, clean and delicious. ¬†Baked apple crumble for desert (Paleo style).

I have so much food for the next couple of days and looking forward to the next couple weeks to see how the body goes… I don’t actually miss anything at this stage, I have no cravings…. It is hard to explain, I just feel content. ¬†As I normally rely on my oats to give me “energy” for the gym, I was interested to see how I would go doing weights yesterday – well I smashed it and felt amazing. No starches works wonders for my body (except sweet potato of course… ) I did a pb for chest press with db… 17.5kg dbells… in each hand that is peoples. ¬†This girl is on fire in the weights department, am feeling so strong and in control.

Training in the pool today was awesome too –¬†I felt amazing in the water after a big boxing session with the PitD crew. I am sore from Tabata on Friday night and the boxing just kicked the DOMS that little bit more… a swim made everything feel much better. ¬†Lots of good energy in the pool, I got my cadence down from 52 to 47 within about 5 laps… so was very happy with that. ¬†Apparently Grant Hackett is at 40…. I must work out if we are using the same measurements….anyhoo…time to go to bed as I have a smashing back/bicep workout scheduled for the morning… jumping chins time… ¬†check out pictures below of the foods I have been eating over the last couple days… look like boring “diet” food to you? ¬†No way.

Day three of challenge

Seriously how easy is it to not eat dairy, grains or processed foods?! Simple. I am feeling the best I have for ages – I am fit, I am lean & strong, I am focussed & determined to achieve everything I set out to achieve and ain’t aiming low either.

Yesterday I slept in and enjoyed healthy foods:

Omelette with mushrooms, zucchini, tomato with spinach leaves & avocado
Beef stew with garden salad & balsamic vinegar with homemade rissoles
Blueberries, strawberries, pear & kiwi fruit with coconut milk (organic light)
Chorizo/squid & tuna with potato, green salad & red wine mmm
Pears& star anise
3 long blacks

Yum yum yum!!! I also did a tabata workout which felt great! Rowing, planks with tap, burpees, side planks with hip raises, jump squats, plank with side rotation, starjumps!!!! Next time I will remember HRM.

Wish I could bottle this feeling ūüôā
